PETALING JAYA (July 17): Genting UK, a subsidiary of entertainment and gaming conglomerate Genting Malaysia Bhd, is mulling to shave over 1,600 jobs in the United Kingdoms owing to unprecedented losses over the past few months’ of lockdown, reported Sky News today.

The company also confirmed plans to close three of its 43 sites -- at Torquay, Margate and Bristol -- that were no longer "financially viable".

In a separate report by the iGaming Business portal, while 1,642 jobs were at risk of redundancy, Genting UK will continue its consultation process to mitigate job losses as much as possible.

Despite this, Genting UK said it would continue to work towards preparing its properties for reopening, adding that it has been forced to make “significant changes” to its physical premises and operating model.

In an earlier report, another Genting Group property, Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore, has reportedly laid off around 2,000 staff.
